Hazrat Khadija (RA) – An Exemplary Businesswoman

Golden History of Islam

Hazrat Khadija (RA) al-Tahira

Hazrat Khadija (RA) was born to a father who was a successful merchant in Mekka. She inherited business skills from her father. After her father died, she (RA) took over the business and started trading from Makka to Syria and to Yemen to earn her living. It was a great example of leadership and wisdom as at the time, the world was rooted in male dominance and it was extremely dangerous for women to live independently and do trade.

Soon her business expanded and grew larger than other Quresh traders. She (RA) earned repute with fair dealing of goods, which led her to earn the titles of ‘Ameerat-Quresh’ (Princess of Quresh) and al-Tahira (The Pure One).

Philanthropy by Hazrat Khadija (RA)

Hazrat Khadijah (RA) distributed her wealth and earnings among those who truly deserved them. She (RA) helped widows, sick people, orphans, and help poor girls with their mandatory dowry. She (RA) is one of the most inspiring figures in the history of mankind and her resilience, courage, bravery, honesty, loyalty, love for Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H, commitment to the religion, and mankind will be remembered forever.

As righteous women, we should follow in her footsteps to lead an exemplary life.
